Cal-Western Region Hybrid Student Auditions and Conference
January 12 - 14, 2024
The 2024 Cal-Western NATS Regional auditions will be held as hybrid auditions. Because the Regional auditions serve to select the students who advance to the National You-Tube round, we adhere closely to all national NATS standards. The Regional auditions are not directly connected to the chapter/district auditions. This means any student studying with a NATS teacher in the Cal-Western region may participate, regardless of participation or placement in chapter/district auditions. Conversely, placing in chapter/district auditions does not affect standing in the regional auditions.
The first round of auditions will be held virtually in the fall of 2023. The live semi-finals and finals will be held at the 2024 Regional Conference and Auditions at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, from January 12-14, 2024. Students must
present the SAME repertoire at all rounds of the auditions, including the national rounds.
**Timeline for 2023-24**
October 6* Registration opens for the first round. Registration includes all student information and YouTube links.
November 9* Registration closes. Suggested District deadlines are as follows:
Utah District Deadline: 11-4-23
Arizona District Deadline: 11-5-23
Northern California District Deadline: 11-6-23
Southern California Deadline: 11-7-23
Hawaii District Deadline: 11-8-23
Nevada District Deadline: 11-9-23
November 9-15* Vetting and remediation period.
November 16* Judging assignments sent out. All teachers with participating students must judge or provide a substitute judge AT THE TOME OF REGISTRATION. NO exceptions.
December 7* Judging assignments due.
December 9/10* The top 7 students in each category or sub-category will be announced. These students will participate in the live semi-finals in Utah. Sub-categories may be combined in the semi-finals in accordance with the national rules.
January 13* Live semi-finals. All teachers with participating students are required to judge or provide a substitute judge.
January 14* Finals. The top 3 students in each category or sub-category will perform a 3 minute selection (audition cuts are permitted in the finals only). Any NATS member present can vote to rank each category.
**These dates are dependent on the completion of vetting, remediation, and judging, and therefore are subject to change.
