Job Description / Duties

The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites nominations and applications for the position of assistant professor of choral music education/assistant director of choral activities.

Reporting to the chair of the department, the assistant professor of choral music education/assistant director of choral activities position requires teaching, service, and research responsibilities as well as a terminal degree. We seek an effective, enthusiastic instructor of choral music education whose primary duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to K-12 teacher preparation in music education and choral conducting, directing the University Singers, and supervising student teaching. Additional duties include recruiting, participating in outreach and service responsibilities, and maintaining an active agenda of research and creative activity. The position is a 9-month tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate by August 1, 2014
• Minimum of 3 years of full-time K-12 music teaching
• Demonstrated ability to direct choral ensembles
• Demonstrated knowledge of current methodology and research in music education
• Demonstrated knowledge of voice pedagogy and its effective application in a variety of settings
• Demonstrated potential to establish a scholarly research agenda

Preferred Qualifications:
• Full-time college level teaching experience
