Job Description / Duties

The Chapman University Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music is seeking applicants for a tenure track Associate Professor in the College of Performing Arts beginning in the 2014-15 academic year.

Primary duties and responsibilities include: 1. Serve as applied vocal area director; coordinate adjunct voice faculty including studio assignments; coordinate activities for the vocal department including student advising, Conservatory auditions and recruitment. 2. Teach applied voice and vocal pedagogy; other possible teaching responsibilities could include diction and song literature. 3. Assume an active leadership role in the recruitment of voice students. 4. Work in collaboration with the Dean, including the College administrative team members, and with the Conservatory Chair. 5. Contribute to the academic/artistic/creative community by participating in appropriate Conservatory, College and University committees, and other University service activities as assigned.

Qualifications / Required Skills

1. Doctorate degree in performance, pedagogy or related field required. 2. Extensive vocal teaching experience at the university level is expected. 3. A demonstrated history of program building and recruitment from high school and community college programs. 4. The candidate will need to demonstrate creative and/or scholarly activities commensurate with his or her level of experience in order to secure tenure. 5. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the preparation of college-level undergraduates and high school vocalists is essential.
