Job Description / Duties
The University of the South seeks an Assistant Professor of Voice. Soprano or Alto preferred, other voice types considered. Full-time, tenure-track, effective July 1, 2016.
The Department of Music seeks a vibrant vocalist to teach undergraduate applied voice and to conduct choral ensembles within the College. As a key member of the music department at this small liberal arts college, s/he will teach classes relevant to his/her expertise (e.g., music appreciation, song literature, opera history, musical theater, and/or other topical courses). This position is part of a trio of hires: the one listed here in Department of Music; one in the School of Theology for Sacred Music; and one in All Saints' Chapel for Organist and Choirmaster, who directs the choir connected with the chapel. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will work collegially with these two positions; hence, experience with music in the Episcopal/Anglican or another liturgical tradition will be an asset.
Qualifications / Required Skills
DMA (or ABD).
The successful candidate will have significant professional vocal experience, whether in the Broadway, opera, or chamber idioms, and will possess demonstrated potential to develop a thriving voice studio. Experience directing operatic or musical theater scenes will be to the candidate's advantage. Continued professional activity is required for contract renewal.
