Niagara University’s Department of Theatre & Fine Arts invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Theatre to start in the fall 2017 semester.

The department currently offers Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree programs in Theatre Performance and Theatre Design & Production. The new faculty member’s responsibilities will include (a) teaching musical theatre vocal performance classes (two courses /sections per semester); (b) music directing/accompanying musicals for NU Theatre- the producing organization for the Department (one per semester), including auditions; (c) oversight and development of vocal music training within the performance program; (d) academic advising and recruitment, mentoring students for the profession, and maintaining and contributing to the philosophy of the performance program; (e) engaging in research and service to the university, the profession, and the community.

Terminal degree (MFA, PhD or equivalent normally required for teaching in his or her field) and significant professional experience is required.
Candidates should have: teaching experience at a conservatory, 4-year teaching institution or its equivalent; excellent keyboard, conducting and sight-reading skills; a thorough knowledge of musical theatre history and repertoire including both traditional and contemporary works; demonstrated commitment to academic rigor; demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
The preferred candidates will possess active and current connections to the industry, a record of professional music direction/accompaniment, and a record of successful coaching for national auditions.
For the qualified candidate, there exists the potential for directing, composing and/or teaching additional courses in their area of expertise.
