Job Description / Duties

Central College’s department of Music seeks a lecturer or senior lecturer for a one year non-tenure line appointment beginning August 2017 which includes the possibility of renewal.

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer will teach applied voice to majors and non-majors, classes in the vocal curriculum such as diction and pedagogy, coordinate and coach opera scenes, and collaborate with the theater department on musical productions. Opportunities are also available to teach music appreciation and/or world music.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Successful candidates will possess a DMA (ABD considered) and have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting.

Central College offers a B.A. in music and in music education. The DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC has seven full-time faculty who offer a wide range of courses in music theory, literature, and applied techniques. . A number of choral and instrumental ensembles are available for all students, and about a quarter of all students participate. Private study is available in strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice, organ, piano and harpsichord. The Department of Music also works closely with the college’s celebrated Education Department to deliver an excellent educational experience for our students, and to supply the state of Iowa with highly qualified educators. The Department of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
