Job Description / Duties

The Department of Performing Arts in the School of College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment in Musical Theatre for Academic Year 2017-2018. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 28, 2017. The position is renewable, pending budget approval.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Applicants should hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in theatre, music, musical theatre or a related field. The faculty member will teach six classes per academic year that includes the music direction for two productions. Candidates should have demonstrated strength teaching courses including, but not limited to, theatre/musical theatre, musical theatre history, music or theatre appreciation, ear-training or music theory. The most successful candidates will have demonstrated excellence coaching musical theatre voices as well as experience in music directing Golden Age, contemporary, and new/experimental musicals. Keyboard proficiency required.
