Job Description / Duties

The University at Buffalo Department of Music seeks to make a three-year clinical term appointment for the 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-2020 academic years. The 10-month position carries a teaching load of four courses per semester. Position may be renewable based on funding and the University’s needs.

The Department of Music offers Mus.B. and M.M. degrees in music performance, as well as an Advanced Certificate in contemporary music performance; and a minor in performance. The department is widely known for an emphasis on new music creation and performance, and candidates sharing a strong interest in contemporary music are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:
•Provide individual lessons in voice to registered students, 6-8 hours weekly;
•Teach small classes for majors TBD, including Vocal Diction and Vocal Pedagogy, one per semester;
•Teach Opera Studio, once per semester;
•Teaching of general education courses within the UB Curriculum, one per semester;
•Participate in all required hearings, juries, auditions;
•Collaborate closely with other Performance units;
•Recruitment activities, at all levels including on-campus, within the WNY community, and by means of off-campus solo/ensemble performances in local high schools and beyond;
•Potential exists for some paid participation in additional performance activities.
•All final course assignments rest with the department chair, who may adjust the above in view of studio size/enrollment issues.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Professional career experience as a singer and instructor. Appropriate terminal degree (ex., MM). Demonstrated exceptional professional career experience may be considered in lieu of terminal degree.
