Job Description / Duties

Cantate Carlisle is seeking an Artistic Director for the concert season beginning in fall 2020. This position is primarily responsible for planning a fall/winter and spring concert, recruiting and auditioning singers, conducting weekly rehearsals, and leading the musical performance of the Cantate Carlisle singers and accompanists.
The 2019 – 2020 season will be the 30th anniversary of the group led by Founder and Artistic Director Cheryl H. Parsons. Cantate Carlisle has a prominent reputation for singing a variety of musical styles including classical and contemporary choral literature, popular, folk, and jazz, while always striving for excellence in performance. Rehearsals are currently held on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 to 9:15 beginning roughly with the start of the school year and extending through the spring concert.

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Advanced degree in choral conducting or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in choral and instrumental conducting
• Knowledge of choral music and experience with a variety of musical styles and traditions
• Ability to work effectively with singers with a range of musical abilities
• Openness to developing repertoire suited to and reflective of the Carlisle community
• Proficiency in coordinating the logistical and musical elements of concert performances
• Capacity to develop a strong working relationship with an accompanist
• Efficiency in planning and rehearsing, clarity in communications, aptitude for leadership
• Ability to attend monthly board meetings, work effectively with the board, and assist in fund raising
• Commitment to seek opportunities that will promote awareness of Cantate Carlisle in the community

Additional Information

Application deadline is October 15, 2019. Finalists will be asked to rehearse a selection with the choir.

Salary: Compensation for the position will be based on experience and education.
