POSITION: Assistant Professor of Voice (tenure-track) or Full-time Lecturer in Voice (Three-year renewable contract)

RANK AND SALARY: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Butler University School of Music, in the Jordan College of the Arts, is inviting applications and nominations for a new position in the Voice Area. Based on the applicant’s experience and qualifications, this position may be as Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or as Lecturer (full-time non-tenure track, three-year renewable contract).

Primary responsibilities include providing dynamic, excellent private voice instruction to music majors and non-majors; teaching University-scheduled studio classes; attending and assessing entrance auditions; evaluating degree-required recitals and end-of-semester voice performance exams; attending voice area meetings, as well as other service to the College and University; actively participating in the recruitment of voice majors which includes providing sample lessons to prospective students and assisting in an on-campus competition for high school singers; and contributing to building an inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population. The successful candidate may also teach voice-related courses such as diction, vocal repertoire classes, vocal pedagogy, etc. Academic advising, student mentoring, committee participation, and community service are expected as well. Continuing excellence in teaching, service, and scholarly activity is expected to qualify for reappointment, or for tenure and promotion if hired as an Assistant Professor.

Qualifications / Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS: Required qualifications include a doctorate in music (ABD is acceptable), evidence of professional-level vocal performance, and successful voice teaching at the collegiate level. Preferred qualifications include a record of proven success in the recruitment of exceptional college music majors.
