Job Description / Duties

The Oberlin College Conservatory invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Opera Theater beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.

Responsibilities:
Direct mainstage operas;
Teach opera workshop classes, in collaboration with the music director/pianist;
Teach seminars in opera directing and/or other opera courses as expertise and interest allow;
Oversee the opera budget, in collaboration with the conservatory business manager and the conservatory dean;
Coordinate design process and all production personnel for the mainstage operas, in collaboration with the theater department;
Coordinate mainstage repertoire selection process, in collaboration with voice faculty, opera staff, and theater personnel.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Outstanding record of professional experience as an opera director;
Advanced degree in opera theater, theater, or equivalent experience;
Experience as a lyric theater director or equivalent performance experience; musical and linguistic expertise;
Practical knowledge of theater technology;
Experience teaching acting and/or movement to singers;
Demonstrated success in working effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
