Job Description / Duties

The Department of Music at Stanford University invites applicants for the position of Lecturer in Vocal Studies, beginning in Fall 2021. This is a full-time Lecturer position with benefits.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
• Teach weekly voice classes to students from a wide spectrum of experience and ability
• Teach weekly applied studio voice lessons at the intermediate or advanced level to music majors, minors and non-majors as needed
• Teach courses in areas appropriate to the appointee’s qualifications and departmental needs
• Participate in assessment of studio juries
• Participate in weekly applied students voice class
• Participate in evaluating supplemental materials and auditions for yearly admissions applicants
• Maintain a presence on campus, attending on-campus performances and participating in performance activities such as concerts, faculty recitals and other faculty events
• Serve on the Performance Committee and attend faculty and committee meetings
• Work collaboratively with faculty colleagues and contribute to the long-range goals of the vocal program

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications/Required Skills
• Master's degree or professional experience as teacher and/or performer equivalent to the terminal degree
• Documented experience and success teaching voice in an accredited higher education institution or in a professional setting
• Enthusiasm and commitment to teaching group voice classes to a wide range of students from all academic disciplines and who encompass varied degrees of experience and ability
• A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in approach to teaching/learning and in professional activities
• Documented success teaching students of diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Familiarity with languages generally encountered in the vocal and choral literature
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• High degree of organization
• Professional distinction and documented success as a singer
