Taylor University is seeking applications and nominations of distinctive candidates for a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance, as Assistant Professor of Music (Voice) beginning in August 2024. Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications 

Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Music. Exceptional candidates with an appropriate master's degree and extensive related experience will be considered, though tenure track would need to be evaluated. The primary responsibilities will be teaching voice lessons and teaching courses in the successful candidate’s area of specialty, including Musical Theatre History and Styles, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocal Literature, and Stage Direction/ Music Direction for Lyric Theatre. The faculty member will teach students in classically oriented degrees such as Vocal Performance as well as students pursuing a BFA in Musical Theatre, and students in the Worship Arts program. Depending on the candidate’s background, the candidate may teach students outside of the MTD Department in courses that are part of the university’s Aesthetic Literacy core. Other courses taught will depend on interest and background.

Demonstrated excellence in college teaching and professional performing are desired. Strong organizational skills, expert musicianship, leadership and collegiality are essential for this position. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the life of the mind through participation in professional organizations and scholarship and will be committed to the integration of faith and learning. Professional service, active membership in professional societies, student advising, and faculty governance responsibilities are expected. Preference would be given to candidates with 3 - 5 years of leadership experience in higher education.

About the Department

The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance is a vibrant community that provides professional training and service to the university in the Christian Liberal Arts tradition. The department has more than 100 majors and minors with 8 full time faculty and nearly twenty specialty adjunct instructors. There are 10 music ensembles and a highly active theatre and musical theatre program. The music unit is accredited by NASM. The department offers Bachelor of Music Degrees in Performance, Music Education, and Composition; Bachelor of Science Degrees with concentrations in Music Marketing, Worship Arts, and Management; Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Music and Theatre; and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Musical Theatre.
