What's New > Seven teachers receive 2022 Emerging Leaders Awards
The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) is pleased to announce that seven early-career teachers of singing have been selected to receive 2022 Emerging Leaders Awards.
This biennial grant program is designed to recognize teachers of singing with no more than 10 years of teaching experience and who are active at the chapter and regional level of NATS. Winners receive a $750 grant to assist with their attendance at the NATS 57th national conference, which takes place July 1-6, 2022.
The seven NATS Emerging Leaders for 2022 are:
- Allison Houston (Cal-Western Region)
- Nicole Jenkins (Mid-Atlantic Region)
- Joshua Zink (Mid-South Region)
- Kristen Murdaugh (New England Region)
- Dorea Cook (Southeastern Region)
- Phyllis Horridge (Southern Region)
- Travis Sherwood (Texoma Region)

This year’s applicants were eligible from the Cal-Western, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-South, New England, Southeastern, Southern, or Texoma regions.
In 2020, applicants were eligible from the Central, Eastern, Great Lakes, Intermountain, North Central, Northwestern, and West Central regions. Since the 2020 conference was held virtually, those 2020 award winners can use their funds toward the upcoming in-person conference this summer.
